We are a small congregation of committed Christians mainly from the local area of Summerhill in Aberdeen. We gather on a Sunday to worship through praise and teaching from Scripture, which we recognise as the true authority of God.
Michael Shewan was born and brought up in the North east of Scotland and studied Divinity at Aberdeen University before entering the ministry. He served at Ratho and Auchterarder before returning (nearly) to his roots when he became the minister of Summerhill in 2008.
The current Summerhill building was constructed in the early 1960s and its fabric is not without challenges some 50+ years on. We are, however, making changes and improvements to make the building more usable for the community and to this end we have recently removed the pews from the Sanctuary, thus providing a large multi-function space that, in addition to worship, can be used by the congregation for social events and fundraising. We have also installed a new system of electric heating in the hall, improving on the elderly oil-fired boiler that came with the building.
Our buildings are already home to some outside groups, including a kickboxing club and keep-fit class. As a result of the refurbishments, parts of our premises are now more suited to general use for conferences, dinners, meetings, funeral teas and social functions.
